We all want to live healthier, more balanced lifestyles, but where do we begin?  We take a look at some simple yet practical changes that you can make today that will set you on the path to a healthier lifestyle.

MAKE APPOINTMENTS WITH YOUR GP AND DENTIST.

Catch up on your routine screening and immunisations, and take the opportunity to ask your doctor any questions you might have. Zurreal Platinum members who have a full check-up during February can earn double their Health Check Rewards – that’s R2 400 in cash paid into their Zurreal Healthcard!

WEIGH IN.

Have your Body Mass Index (BMI) checked and measure your waist circumference to see if your waistline is putting your health at risk.  Use your Resolution Health Preventative Bare Benefits for your BMI and other health checks. Also remember that Zurreal Platinum members get Health Check Rewards for these checks too.

ASSESS YOUR ACTIVITY.

How much physical activity do you typically get in a week? How intense is that activity? How much variety do you get in your exercise routine and how much do you enjoy it? Make a plan to slowly increase your physical activity to at least 30 minutes a day. Look at joining a social walking or running club, it’s guaranteed to motivate you.

KEEP A FOOD DIARY.

Write down everything that you eat for a day and do not skip the items that you're embarrassed about. Do this for a week and then look at what you can change to make your diet a healthier one.  Once again, start small and build your way up to bigger changes.

CHECK YOUR MOOD AND ENERGY.

Healthy living includes emotional wellness and adequate rest. How has your mood been lately? Are you experiencing any symptoms of depression or anxiety? Do you usually sleep well for seven to eight hours a night?  Consider an earlier bedtime if necessary or chat to your doctor if you have a consistently low mood.

GET SOCIAL.

How strong are your connections with family and friends? Make time for loved ones even if it feels like an effort at first.  Human beings need a support mechanism to which they can turn to for advice and care.
