5 ways to cut back on your salt intake

Avoid processed foods

Processed foods generally contain a lot of salt as preservative. Be sure to read the labels on any canned and processed foods you buy.

Don’t add salt to your food

It’s a simple habit to learn. If salt is added for flavour during cooking, be sure to avoid the a 2nd round of seasoning once the meal is on your plate.

Cut down on snacks

Not just the salty kind, even sweet snacks can contain a lot of salt.

Choose fresh fruit and vegetables

If you have to buy frozen vegetables go for those that say “fresh frozen”.

Select spices or seasonings that do not list sodium on their labels

For instance, choose garlic powder over garlic salt.
