5 things you can do to avoid the winter coughs and sniffles


So you had your flu vaccine (It’s covered as part of your Resolution Health Preventative Care benefits) but still want to be extra sure you avoid those coughs and sniffles. Don’t spend all day tip-toeing around your co-workers, take charge and reduce your chances of catching colds or flu using these easy tips:

If you shake a hand, wash yours - But don’t stop there. Wash them as much as possible. Running lots of water over your hands will dilute any germs and send them down the drain.

Keep your hands off - Touching your nose and your eyes are the easiest way for germs on your hands to get into your body, so try to avoid it as much as possible. Also try to avoid people that are already sick as far as possible.

Fight back, from your bed - When you’re tired, your body isn’t fighting as hard as it could be, so you need more Zs when you’re feeling under the weather. Aim for getting 8 to 10 hours a night.

Eat right and exercise- Eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and working out regularly supports your immune system, and that’s a lot easier than fighting off the flu.

Sanitize yourself - Keep sanitizing gel or alcohol-based hand wipes on you at all times, but read the label because some wipes are not alcohol-based and won’t be as effective.
